Curator Tour of
Power Up: American Women Printmakers
Georgetown University Library
September 30, 10:30 am
This program is in-person and members-only
Please join us for a September 30, 10:30 am tour of the current exhibition at Georgetown University Library, Power Up: American Women Printmakers. This will be a members-only, in-person event.
Power Up: American Women Printmakers was curated by 15 graduate students in Museum Studies and undergraduates in other degree programs as the culminating project of their semester-long class, “Curating American Women Printmakers.” The tour will be led by the professor and curators who co-taught the class: Lisa Strong, Chair of the Art and Museum Studies Program, Art Curator LuLen Walker and Assistant Curator Christen Runge. The forty-eight prints in the exhibition are from the permanent collection of the Booth Family Center for Special Collections at Georgetown University Library. Beginning with works by Mary Nimmo Moran and Eliza Greatorex of the Etching Revival period, and ending with contemporary artists such as Rosemary Covey, Renée Stout and Yuriko Yamaguchi, the works are grouped into four themes: Identity and Politics; Women Representing Women; Women and the Art Market; The Importance of Studios, Teachers, and Mentors; and the Labor of Printmaking. Additional information about the exhibition is available here.
Georgetown requires all visitors ages 12 and older to be up to date on COVID-19 vaccination or attest to having a medical or religious exemption from being vaccinated. Program registrants will receive a link to an online form which they will use to upload images of their vaccine card. Registrants will receive a QR code from Georgetown which they will need to show to enter the building, and an emailed health attestation to complete the morning of the event.
Registrants will receive additional logistical information regarding directions and parking.
This program is limited to 25 people. Washington Print Club members may register up to two people, keeping in mind that members will need to make sure that their guests complete the required vaccine card image upload and the health attestation. Please RSVP here or use the button below. The registration deadline is Monday, September 26.
Exhibition of Note
Participants in the September 30 program may also want to independently visit the de la Cruz Gallery on the campus of Georgetown University to see the exhibition Mary Kelly: To Witness The Future. This is the first exhibition to specifically explore Kelly’s long engagement with activist movements. On view will be works made from 2005 to the present, including lint “paintings,” light box photographs, video art, and a live “happening.” The works all reference women’s responses to key political issues in the United States and Europe starting in the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition is open to all and is on view until December 11. Further information is available on the gallery’s website.
