Ringgold Sarr Meeting on the Matrix flyer

Register Now:

Ringgold / Saar: Meeting on the Matrix
Tuesday, April 4, noon

Online and Open to All

Please join the Washington Print Club for a virtual tour of RINGGOLD | SAAR: Meeting on the Matrix, the latest exhibition at the David C Driskell Center of the University of Maryland, College park MD.

RINGGOLD | SAAR: Meeting on the Matrix features the print work of Faith Ringgold and Betye Saar, providing a window into the material and conceptual explorations at play in their distinct practices. Both artists have uniquely utilized the matrix—the printmaking surface which transfers ink onto paper or fabric—as a site of possibilities for experimentation, storytelling, and activism. The exhibition is the first time the works of the two artists are featured together in an exhibition devoted to print media. This exhibition was collaboratively curated by graduate students in the University of Maryland Department of Art History and Archaeology.

The online tour and discussion will be led by Cléa Massiani, a curator and art professional formally based in San Francisco, CA. She is the founder and co-director of Bass and Reiner Gallery, currently located at the Minnesota Street Project complex in San Francisco, a curatorial space dedicated to fostering dynamic dialogues in the Bay Area art scene and emerging artists. Massiani has curated and co-curated several exhibitions in museums and galleries and held professional art positions both in Europe and the United States. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in History and Art History from The Sorbonne University in Paris, France, and an M.A. in Exhibition and Museum Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA. She now is a Ph.D student at the University of Maryland.

Cataloging the Prints and Drawings of
Surrealist Artist Yves Tanguy:
An Online Presentation by
Collector Bill Duncan
March 25, 11:00am

Online via Zoom and Open to All

Catalogues of artist’s works are a valuable resource for the art collector. Bill Duncan will discuss the considerations and challenges involved with compiling a catalogue of the drawings and prints by the self-taught French surrealist, Yves Tanguy. While Tanguy’s artistic career spanned only 30 years (ca. 1924 to 1954), he produced more than 1,000 drawings, 500 oils and gouaches, and approximately 33 etchings. Following a question and answer period, there will be a ten-minute slide show of the artist’s works.

This program will be online and open to all. Please register using the button below. You will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite that will contain the Zoom link.

Acceptance of Nominations for
WPC Board of Directors

A Message from Club President
Christopher With:

The Washington Print Club is seeking new board members. We hope that members who meet the criteria below will consider applying, or you may nominate another Washington Print Club member.

Board members assist with a variety of projects and assume responsibilities in areas that interest them, so there is plenty of opportunity to work on projects that excite you. In general, board members are organized, work well on their own or with others, and have a familiarity with, and/or contacts within, the print world. Given the nature of today’s art world and our need to expand our online presence, we are seeking new board members who are comfortable with using and contributing to social media, online newsletter drafting, and other internet-based tasks. It is also important that board members be familiar with the current DC-area arts landscape and be able to serve as an ambassador for the Print Club by attending events in the area.

Board members become part of a friendly and diverse group of fellow print, drawing, and photography enthusiasts. Terms are two years. The formal election will take place during the annual member appreciation and business meeting scheduled for May 27 at Pyramid Atlantic in Hyattsville.

Board meetings are held roughly every six to eight weeks with a hiatus during summer months. They occur on weekday evenings and last about two hours. For the foreseeable future, board meetings transpire virtually.

Those interested in applying should contact membership chair Nancy Hirshbein.  The deadline is Friday, April 28.  Nominees are welcome to attend a board meeting before making a final decision if you wish.

Thank you for considering this invitation to nominate a candidate for the board of directors of your Washington Print Club. We look forward to hearing from you.
