World War II Photojournalism

Register Now:
In Person and Members Only

Tour of the American University Museum
Exhibition, “Eastern Front – Western Front,
World War II Photojournalism by Georgi Zelma and
Constance Stuart Larrabee”
With Curator Laura Roulet
Saturday, February 11, 11:00 am

Featuring materials from the Corcoran collection, “Eastern Front – Western Front” offers a unique juxtaposition of the perspectives of photojournalists Georgi Zelma and Constance Stuart Larrabee, a Russian man and a South African woman. Both of their bodies of work provide little-known views into the battles and aftermath of the European theater of war, contributing to the history of combat photography and photojournalism during World War II.

Vintage and lifetime photographs are supplemented by archival materials such as Larrabee’s contact sheets, war correspondent ID, field notes, and the original magazines where her photographs were published. The processes of pre-digital photography—such as contact sheet printing, darkroom techniques, and editing—are presented and explained through archival material within the exhibition. More information about the exhibition is available here.

This event will be in-person and members-only. Due to the small size of the gallery, attendance will be capped at 20. Please use the button below to register. You may register up to two people. As always, this program will reach capacity, so please RSVP quickly.

Free parking is available on weekends in the garage located under the Katzen Arts Center.
