Friday, September 1, 11:00 am
Please join us for a tour of Ay-Ō’s Happy Rainbow Hell with exhibition curator Kit Brooks, Japan Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art, at the National Museum of Asian Art (Smithsonian).
Japanese Fluxus artist Ay-Ō (b. 1931) has gained an international reputation as the “Rainbow Artist” for his distinctive artworks of graduated rainbow hues. With over 80 of his silkscreen prints in the collection, the National Museum of Asian Art is presenting the first solo museum exhibition of Ay-Ō’s work in the United States. Working together with his master printers to push the medium to its limits, his silkscreen prints use an average of 24 colors but can include as many as 192, and take over a year to produce. More information about the artist and exhibition is available here.
Registration will be limited to 20 people and is members-only. You may register up to two people.
