Frank Stewart: Diary of a Globetrotter
Exhibition Dates October 23 thru November 27, 2021
gallery neptune & brown presents its second exhibition with acclaimed photographer Frank Stewart. Stewart has been a globetrotter from his first images created at the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. He photographed African American communities across the United States and cultures rooted in Africa starting in 1974 and Cuba starting in 1977. Equally important are the diverse painterly compositions and visual possibilities he has discovered around the world while traveling as the official photographer for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Represented in this exhibition are photographs taken in Europe, Asia, and South America. Many images are on view for the first time.
Please join Gallery Neptune & Brown from 3 – 6 pm on October 23rd for a Meet & Greet with Frank Stewart.
This exhibition includes both black and white and color photography, a development Stewart only fully embraced in 2013. The exhibition explores two dialogues. Stewart says, “The black and white photos explore the relationship between form and content. The color photos are a conversation in texture, pigment, and composition.”
