PROGRAM SCHEDULE
As announced in the WPC Bulletin update earlier this summer, we are excited to offer our very first virtual Zoom program on Friday, September 18 at 11:00 am.
Please join us for an online conversation with Smithsonian American Art Museum curator of prints and drawings Alex Mann about the work of artist Chiura Obata, who was the subject of a recent SAAM exhibition. Obata was a prominent and influential teacher, painter, and printmaker whose synthesis of different art traditions defied the usual division between “East” and “West.” The SAAM exhibition presented the most comprehensive survey of Obata’s work to date, from California landscape paintings to intimate drawings of his experiences of mass incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II.
To register for the Zoom program, please email Nancy Hirshbein at gro.bulctnirpnotgnihsaw@pihsrebmem by Friday, September 11. To access the program, a zoom link will be emailed to you before September 18th. If you are not familiar with Zoom, please download the free app to your computer or tablet now and explore the tutorials that are on the Zoom website.
The WPC Program Committee is working on additional virtual programs for the remainder of 2020 which will be announced in upcoming months.
If you have virtual offerings and other resources from cultural institutions you would like to share with WPC members via Facebook, Instagram and future WPC Bulletins, please contact Nancy Hirshbein at gro.bulctnirpnotgnihsaw@pihsrebmem
UPDATE ON DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW WPC WEBSITE
As was announced in the Summer 2020 Program Update, the WPC Board of Directors has established a committee to revamp the Club’s website. Co-chaired by Nancy Hirshbein and Melissa Fast, committee members include Herb Cooper, Mike Hagan, Beverly With and Chris With. Working with DLM Web Development, the Committee is busy preparing content and images for the website and hopes to launch the new and revitalized website in the fall.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE
The chairpersons of two Board committees have recently changed. Joan Filson has replaced Joan Root as Secretary and Nancy Hirshbein has become the new Membership Chair replacing Joan Cooper. We very much appreciate Joan Root’s and Joan Cooper’s many years of faithful and proficient service to the Board in executing these important duties and are happy to report that they both will remain as Board members. Further, Board member Melissa Fast, co-chair of the Website Committee, has agreed to serve as Webmaster of the new website. We are very grateful to Herb Cooper who has overseen the WPC website since the beginning. Herb also will be continuing as a Board member.
Stay healthy and safe!
