Beyond a Supporting Role —
Paper in Jasper Johns’ Prints
Wednesday, April 6, 10:45 am
National Gallery of Art
Join Shelley R. Langdale, Curator and Head of Modern Prints and Drawings, and Amy Hughes, Paper Conservator, in the Modern Prints & Drawings study room to look at selected works from the National Gallery of Art’s archive of Jasper Johns’s print proofs. The archive, numbering over 1,700 trial and working proofs, was acquired directly from Jasper Johns between 2007-2011. These objects allow us the unprecedented opportunity to better understand the choices made by the artist and his master printers during the creation of an edition. We will focus not only on the printed images, but also on the stunning variety of unusual paper supports selected by the artist – a topic that Amy Hughes has studied in depth.
The deadline for registration is March 30. Registration is limited to 20 people and you may register up to two persons. The session will be held in the Modern Prints and Drawings Study Room. Participants will meet at the desk at the 6th and Constitution entrance to the West Building at 10:45.
As of this date, visitors will be required to wear masks and to complete a Covid symptom questionnaire and vaccination attestation, both of which will be sent to registrants.
