Members’ Advance Registration for the April 23 Online Program

We hope that you can join us for a very special online program on Friday, April 23, 11:00 am (Eastern Time). Printmakers and mixed media artists, Adjoa Burrowes and Gail Shaw-Clemons, moderated by artist Sheila Crider, will explore the beginnings and evolution of their printmaking practice from traditional etchings and lithographs to their recent three-dimensional format. Both artists will reveal the exact point when their prints became three-dimensional and why. Participants will get a glimpse of their printmaking process through video, highlighting the monotype technique. The discussion will range from the importance of experiencing traditional printmaking techniques, the hazards of printmaking, to how this new work fits into the contemporary printmaking landscape.

Collector Laura Roulet will lead us on a virtual slide tour of her collection of works on paper. Joining her in conversation will be DC-area artists Nekisha Durrett and Julie Wolfe.

James Porter Colloquium, Friday, April 16. To celebrate the centennial of Howard University’s Department of Art, the National Gallery of Art’s Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts will cosponsor Howard’s 31st Annual James A. Porter Colloquium on African American Art and Art of the African Diaspora. This event brings together artists and art historians to explore the aesthetic practices, critical issues, and art historical interpretations of the art of the African Diaspora. We are particularly excited to note that Washington Print Club member Renee Stout will deliver the Floyd W. Coleman Sr. Distinguished Lecture, scheduled for 6:10 pm. National Gallery of Art Mellon Lecture Series, “Contact: Art and the Pull of Print.” Jennifer L. Roberts, Elizabeth Cary Agassiz Professor of the Humanities, Harvard University,  a scholar of British and American art from the 18th century to the present, will present a series of six lectures that will be offered online without registration. Association of Print Scholars Distinguished Scholar Lecture, May 7. This year’s speaker will be Curlee Holton, Executive Director, David C. Driskell Center, University of Maryland. Registration information will be available from APC at a later date. Visit their website here.
