Please join us for an in-person, members-only tour of the National Gallery of Art exhibition Sargent and Spain with NGA lecturer Natalie Ryan.

John Singer Sargent (1856–1925), a talented musician and celebrated portrait painter, enjoyed a cultivated upbringing as an expatriate in Europe. On his numerous trips to Spain he absorbed the atmosphere and mystery as well as the immediate, direct, and bravura manner of Goya, Velazquez, and El Greco, These visits unleashed scores of watercolors, oil paintings, drawings, and photographs currently featured in Sargent and Spain at the National Gallery of Art. Lecturer Nathalie Ryan will guide WPC members through the exhibition, with an emphasis on works on paper which pay homage to Sargent’s immersion into the exuberance, vitality and drama of Spain.
