Joann Moser and Kit Brooks will discuss the prints and unique works on paper by Sarah Brayer, an outstanding American artist who has lived and worked in Kyoto for several decades. Ten of her works are in the collection of the National Museum of Asian Art, ranging from several early edition prints to more recent unique paperworks. Kit will focus their remarks on the art in the Museum collection, which will be brought out for the group to see in a study area. Joann will present a brief powerpoint showing Sarah making art at a papermaking workshop in Echizen, Japan, which she visited with Sarah in 2015. Joann is Senior Curator emerita at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Kit is Japan Foundation Assistant Curator of Japanese Art at the National Museum of Asian Art.
Because this event will take place in behind-the-scenes storage spaces of the National Museum of Asian Art, the group size is limited to 13.
